World Clean Up Day 2018: Litter Pick and Evening Flicks!

Friday 24th August 2018

Following on from Earth Day and Surf Maroc’s drive to make our company and local area more eco-friendly, we’re taking part in World Clean Up Day on 15th September 2018. And to celebrate, we’re launching our new Surf Spot Cleaning Initiative, having a cleanup competition and premiering two new surf films!

Surf Spot Cleaning Initiative – coming soon!

To warm up for World Clean Up Day, we’re officially launching our new Surf Spot Cleaning Initiative. We currently employ cleaners to tidy our local beaches. However, to help keep our many surf spots litter-free, we’ll soon be stocking our surf vans with a beach cleaning kit. This will be kept stocked and ready for Surf Guides and guests to use for rubbish collecting while visiting surf spots each day. And striving towards being a plastic-free company, we’ll be reusing large flour bags from our local bakeries as bin bags and providing latex gloves for safe collecting. All coming to our surf vans soon!

World Clean Up Day – The Weekender

Litter Pick…

Along with our Surf Spot Cleaning Initiative for World Clean Up Day 2018, we’re celebrating the occasion over the whole weekend! On Saturday 15th September, official World Clean Up Day, we’re kicking off with surf groups and locations teaming up and using their beach cleaning kit to litter pick around their surf spots and beaches between surfs. We’ll also have a public beach clean kit at Cafe Mouja for any customers wishing to get involved!

Then on Sunday 16th September, Surf Maroc will host a litter-picking competition between our surf groups. Every group will a fully stocked beach cleaning kit, and the team that returns with the most sacks of litter wins a prize! And of course, every team who returns with sacks will be thanked with special Clean Up Day punch!

…and Evening Flick!

Then to thank all of our guests taking part, Amouage will host a special Sunday movie night premiering two new and highly reviewed surf films:

I Am Home by Surfers Collective – Introduced in person by Surfers Collective

Surfers Collective first project and short film that’s won  “Emerging Artist” at the San Diego Surf Film Festival and accepted by 8 other film festivals worldwide. Filmed along our stunning Moroccan coastline, this project shows surf scenes from our best surf spots. It’s aptly described as “a short film to remind us of the beauty of life and travelling. Meeting new people, experiencing a new culture and soaking in what this beautiful planet has to offer.” We can’t wait to watch this short film to celebrate our amazing surfing country, especially as we will have a member of the Surfers Collective with us on the night to introduce the film! Check out behind the scenes here.

Never Town by Patagonia

In line with our environmental weekend, Patagonia’s ‘Never Town’ is a part film, part conservation surf movie. Surfers journey along the wild Southern Australian coastline and highlights how people are fighting to protect them. Throughout this film, surfers show the beauty of these unique surf spots while speaking with conservationists. They discuss their activist work to protect their coastline from huge industries, including oil drilling and fish farms, that are quickly destroying wild surf spots. “Never Town is a rallying call for surfers and local communities to stand together to protect the wild spaces around them”. Watch the trailer for this film above!

Help us collect on the day by coming by Mouja and using the beach clean kit. Or you can join in this worldwide movement by cleaning up your local area!
