Surf Maroc: Hey Lokmane! Could you please introduce yourself in a few words?
Lokmane: Hey, I’m Lokmane, a 28-year-old surf enthusiast born and raised in Morocco. Growing up along the stunning coastline of Agadir, I developed a deep connection with the waves. Today, I’m proud to be an International Level 2 Surf Coach, sharing my passion and expertise at Surf Maroc!
Surf Maroc: How did you start surfing?
Lokmane: I actually stumbled into surfing by accident, man. Back in the day, I was totally hooked on bodyboarding, searching high and low for a board, but luck just wasn’t on my side. Then, out of the blue, one of my buddies was selling his surfboard. I thought, ‘What the heck, let’s give it a shot!’ Little did I know that this decision would forever change my life.
On that very first day, as I paddled out on that surfboard I caught my first waves and boom! I fell head over heels in love with surfing, right then and there. That was a mind-blowing 18 years ago, in the rad city of Agadir.
Surf Maroc: How did you start working at Surf Maroc and what are you doing there exactly?
Lokmane: I have been working as a Surf Coach at Surf Maroc for almost 3 years now. Being a local myself, I’ve got insider knowledge on all the best surf spots, tailoring my recommendations to the current conditions.
My coaching is catering to surfers of all levels. If you’re just starting out, no worries! I will introduce you to surfing, both in theory and practice and helping you catch your first waves. I also collaborate with seasoned surfers who are eager to take their skills to the next level and elevate their game.
Being a Surf Coach at Surf Maroc has been nothing short of amazing. Every day, I get to meet new and incredible people from all corners of the globe.
Surf Maroc: Which advice would you give to someone who wants to go surfing for the first time?
Lokmane: When it comes to surfing, the most important thing is to find the fun in it. So many people give up too quickly because they expect instant progress. But it takes time, patience, and practice to see real improvement.
The key is to set low expectations and stay humble towards the ocean. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Instead, enjoy the experience and savor every wave you manage to catch. Remember, surfing is a journey, and it only gets easier from there.
Surf Maroc: What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Lokmane: Surf Maroc is my home and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. The team here is beyond amazing, and our connection runs deep. I’m stoked to continue riding the waves together in future seasons.
Speaking of adventures, I’m counting down the days until my trip to Indonesia. As a Surf Coach, I’m always sharing the stoke with others, but this time, it’s all about me and the waves. Fingers crossed for the best swells and endless barrel opportunities. Indonesia, here I come!
And exciting news! I recently teamed up with REWOLVE, a rad surfing brand dedicated to sustainability. We’ve got a couple of projects in the works, and I can’t wait to dive in.
Surf Maroc: What keeps you motivated to wake up in the morning?
Lokmane: As a Surf Coach, I’ve found my happy place. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing the progress and pure joy on someone’s face as they catch their first wave or improve their skills.
