Thursday 26th June 2025

Ahhh… the summer surf trip.

If you’ve been toiling away at university or working all winter and spring, the thought of sunny skies, warm water and perfect waves is enough to make anyone start counting down the days. And what better place to escape to than Morocco?

If you’re a beginner surfer or keen to dip your toes into the world of surf travel, a surfing holiday in Morocco during summer should be on the cards. With year-round sunshine, friendly locals and world-class waves for all surf levels, it’s the perfect place to unwind, recharge and improve your surfing ability.

Here’s how to plan the perfect summer surfing holiday (so you can spend less time organising and more time catching waves).

Why Taghazout in summer?

Summer might not bring the thundering swells that intermediate and advanced surfers chase during the winter months. But that’s exactly why it’s ideal for beginners.

If you’re looking to learn, cruise or just soak up surf-town living, the Taghazout area in summer is unbeatable. Here’s why:

  • Consistent summer swells and beginner-friendly surf conditions
  • Warmer water (boardshorts or bikini weather)
  • Surf Maroc weekly events and a laidback vibe in this small fishing village
  • Ideal for learners who want sun, simplicity and amazing surf
  • A true Moroccan coastline atmosphere… local, relaxed and welcoming

The best summer surf spots around Taghazout

Panorama

A long, sweeping righthander on the edge of the village. It works best as a point break at low tide and becomes a forgiving beach break at high. Sheltered from the northerly winds, it’s a favourite among those chasing long waves with easy access.

Banana Point

Just down the road in Banana Village, this spot sits between the Tamraght rivermouth and a small cape. With some protection from the wind, it’s one of the most consistent and amazing surf spots around. Perfect for surf coaching and cruisy sessions.

Devil’s Rock

A mellow reef-meets-beach setup. Ideal for improving your surfing ability. With soft peaks offering lefts and rights, it’s a favourite among local surf guides, surf schools and casual surf sessions. Great fun with friends or a surf team.

Tamri

When Taghazout is flat, head to Tamri. This open beach break picks up more swell than anywhere nearby. Conditions vary. Sometimes it’s soft and mellow. Other times it’s punchy and quick. A classic option for surf guiding trips when you’re looking for waves.

  • Fly into Agadir Airport (just under an hour away)

  • Local taxis and surf camp shuttles are easy to arrange

Local tips for a smooth summer surf trip

  • Try to surf before lunchtime. Mornings are glassy and the breeze picks up during the day
  • Drink plenty of (filtered or bottled) water. Moroccan summers are hot and dry
  • Use reef-safe sunscreen. The sun’s strong and the sea deserves respect
  • Carry small cash. Many shops and cafés don’t take cards, but there are plenty of cash machines that offer a fair rate.
  • Learn a few basics in French or Arabic. Locals appreciate the effort
  • Pack light. Beachwear, loose clothes and one warm layer is enough
  • Embrace the slower pace!
  • Dress respectfully when visiting nearby towns or city
  • Say yes to mint tea
  • Keep your plans loose. The best surf often shows up unannounced

Surf Maroc Shop offers everything you might need on your trip, incase you didn’t have space to pack the essentials.
