We’re big believers in the fact that our home – Taghazout – is more than just a surf destination.
It’s also a community full of creativity, spirit and good people who want to do good things.
Personally, we’ve always been inspired by the people (both locals, and expats and the people passing through) who make this place what it is, and we’ve made it part of our mission to give back in ways that are more meaningful and as sustainable as possible…. and not just for the fleeting moments of a surf vacation.
From regular clean-ups to long-term cultural sponsorships, our projects aren’t just about ticking boxes.
They’re about connection, care and investing in a future and a place we believe in. And the best part? There are plenty of ways you can get involved too.
Whether you’re passing through for a week or sticking around longer, below are our current projects and opportunities for you to join in making a positive impact.
MONTHLY BEACH CLEANS
FIRST THURSDAY OF every MONTH | 4 PM – 5.30 PM | MEET OUTSIDE SURF MAROC SHOP
Keeping Taghazout’s stunning coastline clean is a simple act with a big impact.
Every month, our team joins hands with locals, guests and volunteers to collect anything that doesn’t belong on the beach.
These monthly beach cleans aren’t just about the rubbish we take away either. We often find that we end up discussing the importance of setting a good example and making small changes in our daily lives to protect our environment too.
To be honest, these beach cleanups are a great reminder that the ocean gives us so much, and it’s up to us to return the favour.
Everyone is welcome, and we’ve found that even visitors who’ve never been to a beach cleanup event before often leave feeling more connected to this place than ever.
It’s one of the easiest, most immediate ways to contribute to Taghazout’s well-being. And the fact you can actually see the results of your efforts makes it oh so satisfying.
SUPPORT FOR SURFRIDER FOUNDATION
Environmental activism isn’t just something we talk about… it’s something we help fund
Through our shop, we donate 50% of proceeds from selected products directly to the Surfrider Foundation, a global non-profit fighting to protect our oceans, waves and beaches.
Founded in 1984 by a group of surfers in California, the Surfrider Foundation has grown into one of the most respected ocean advocacy organisations in the world. Their mission is simple but powerful: to protect and enjoy the world’s ocean, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network.
They focus on everything from water quality and plastic pollution to beach access and coastal preservation.
It’s grassroots. It’s passionate. And it’s a simple model that lets you contribute effortlessly by picking up a tee, tote or towel with a purpose.
Every sale helps fuel advocacy, education and ocean protection efforts that reach well beyond Taghazout. And by choosing to shop consciously with us, you’re directly backing work that defends coastlines all over the world. Ours included.
Surf MAroc FEAST NIGHTS & ARTISAN SHOWCASES
Each Monday and Thursday are more than just good food and live music (although there’s HEAPS of that too)
Access from 7pm | 300dhs | booking required
They’re also a celebration of local businesses’ culture.
We regularly invite local Taghazout’s artisans and makers to join us, share their stories and showcase their crafts. From cocktails to carpet makers, handwoven baskets to natural beauty products, ceramics and jewellery. Guests and residents of Surf Maroc get to meet the people behind these pieces, hear their stories and see firsthand what goes into creating these beautiful products.
Twice a week we can sit down with artisans for casual chats to learn more about their work, and the challenges they face and triumphs of creating in this region is reallyactually so special.
These stories get shared on our channels as part of our wider effort to spotlight local talent and keep traditional skills alive. Make sure to follow us and join the community conversation!
SPONSORING THE TAGHAZOUT ART PROJECT
You only need to look at the cool street art, local crafts and even the skatepark’s wild and wonderful graffiti to see that creativity runs deep in Taghazout.
And if all the cool stuff you see around town strikes a chord with you, the Taghazout Art Project is an initiative you should consider getting involved with.
Every year, this incredible programme works with school children in the area, helping them tap into their artistic potential through drawing, painting, music, performance and more.
In our opinion, it’s part art education, part empowerment.
Kids get to see that creativity isn’t just a hobby… It’s a way to express themselves, build confidence and explore new paths.
Throughout the year, their work is showcased in exhibitions, concerts and performances that bring the community together and spark inspiration across all ages.
As part of our All The Good Things initiative, we’ve been proudly supporting the Taghazout Art Project for several years, and we’re constantly inspired by what these young minds create.
SURFBOARD RECYCLING FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS
No surprises here, but we go through a fair few surfboards at Surf Maroc
Every year, we replace our well-used foamies with new ones to make sure our guests have the best possible experience. But just because a board has retired from our quiver doesn’t mean it’s reached the end of the line.
If it’s still in good condition, it gets a second life.
We donate all reusable soft boards, spare leashes and other gear to local surf schools that teach kids from the area. It’s our way of helping the next generation of surfers in Taghazout access equipment that might otherwise be out of reach.
These donations support grassroots surf programmes and give local instructors the tools they need to keep young people stoked, safe and learning.
It’s a small act with a ripple effect.
Surfing builds confidence and confidence leads to positive change in communities.
So if you have a surfboard, wetsuit or other gear that you no longer need, consider bringing it along and donating it to a local surf school or programme during your next trip to Taghazout.
