Yoga & Fitness at Surf Maroc

Yoga & Fitness is a big part of the Surf Maroc experience. With three locations offering high-quality yoga, as well as Yoga Fitness Week experiences, all with professional and experienced teachers, there is something for everyone.

Amouage

Amouage

We welcome you to our Amouage Shala, the largest and most stunning yoga studio in Taghazout.

We have experienced in-house yoga teachers, who offer inspiring, uplifting, and fun yoga classes for all abilities. Yoga goes hand in hand with surfing in our opinion and it’s an important part of the Surf Maroc ethos. Our teachers blend dynamic Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Kundalini, Hatha and Yin Yoga.

Classes are every day, at least twice a day for one hour and open to the public for all levels. Classes start at sunrise and sunset respectively at the Amouage shala, as well as regular afternoon classes of various styles including Yin and Restorative.

The Amouage Shala is also our location for our special summer Fitness Weeks sessions – see more below!

For all guests attending a yoga class who are staying at Amouage or Taghazout Villa, this will be their practice space during their stay.

Yoga at Amouage

  • The Shala

    Found on the rooftop of the Amouage, this stylish sheltered Shala is the largest and busiest yoga space in town. With huge views overlooking the ocean, large floor to ceiling windows, natural cork floor, neon ‘breathe’ sign, lanterns and cactus garden viewing deck, it’s perfectly set up for you to find your zen.

     

  • The Equipment

    The Amouage shala is equipt with a wide variety of yoga props. This is to allow every yogi to have the deepest, most effective practice for their body, whatever style of yoga class they decide to join.

    In the Shala you will find available to use: mats, blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets, eye pillows, sandbags and tennis balls.

  • Karma Corner

    In the corner of the shala you will see budda surrounded by crystals, cactus and brass pot. This is our Karma Corner. As part of our All The Good Things initiative, every week we have a Community Class where anyone can attend and donate money to our charity of the month. All money collected, and any donation given by generous souls outside of this class, are given to this corner.

The Yogis

Meet our Surf Maroc Yoga Teachers and Fitness Instructor.  All teachers a fully qualified, experienced and unique to bring a variety of teaching styles to the shala. You will find our Yogis teaching and assisting classes at both Amouage and Villa Mandala.

Tara

Head Yogi – Tara 

Tara’s passion for health and wellbeing is no secret. The good news is that it’s also quite contagious!

Tara has completed yoga qualifications in many styles of yoga from Ashtanga yoga, Prana Flow, Vinyasa, Power, Rocket, Restorative, Hot Power, Tripsicore, Prenatal, Restorative and Yin Yoga styles. Tara has been teaching full time for the last 10 years and travelling around the globe teaching internationally for the last 7 years, she has experience with many different cultures and teaching to a wide variety of clientele. Tara has completed studies in Trauma Sensitive Yoga and is an accredited Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F) through the Trauma Centre in Brookline, Massachusetts. TCTSY is a SAMSHA approved, evidence based protocol by leading researchers in the field of trauma and psychology. Tara is one of only 100 people worldwide to be a certified TCTSY-F. She shares her knowledge, by running workshops, retreats, yoga teacher trainings and teaching at studios around the world!

With all this said Tara does connect herself as being a yogi, but says “I just love yoga and want to share it with the world!” Tara is known to drink coffee, eat chocolate, and laugh at herself! Now sharing the opportunities of a life with parity to the World, by giving her experience, love, and devotion in yoga, meditation and health through Yoga Retreats, Yoga Teacher Trainings, Workshops & Master classes. 

You will be challenged in your own practice whether you are new to yoga or an experienced yogi, you can enjoy a beautiful vinyasa flow practice delivered with lightness and a sense of humor or guided through a deeply nourishing yin journey as you uncover and discover all of the parts to yourself. As well as teaching all levels of Yoga, Tara is proof that living healthily means living happily – even a little crazily!

 
ADAM

ADAM

Adam, from the UK, travels the world doing what he loves to do. Back in the day, as a graduate in sports and exercise science, he spent several years as a running coach and personal trainer whilst working a fulltime corporate job. Then, tired of the rat race, he left that old life behind to travel the world. He discovered yoga and Thai massage and has never looked back.
He teaches out of the old school book of yoga teaching. Having studied Hatha, vinyasa and restorative yoga, as well as yoga nidra, his classes are not only about doing poses, but also finding a balance between effort and ease, firmness and softness, aliveness and surrender. Including a little bit of everything yogic in his classes, he guides students through a holistic approach – body, breath, mind and soul – to a state of deep restfulness.
As a dedicated and experienced practitioner of traditional Thai massage, he often blends it with yoga into classes to create a uniquely soothing experience. And through doing the work, students have the opportunity to discover the magical freedom of living at their edge.
 
Natalie

Natalie

London-born Natalie began her relationship with yoga over 6 years ago, initially to help her eliviate childhood injuries and recover from her intense cycling activity. Suddenly, it became an essential part of her life. Her dedicated practice took her to flow with inspirational teachers that deepened, refined and motivated her. The best decision she ever made was to finally leave London and complete her teacher training in Bali.

Natalie has now permanently swapped big city London life to small town Taghazout, where she lives with her husband in their campervan. Instead of studios, she now practices where they park – from beaches and mountains to carparks, as long as she can hear nature which inspires her the most.

Natalie’s completed her YTT200 in Bali with Santosha Yoga Institute, along with 20 other souls who continue to teach and inspire her classes to this day. Since arriving in Morocco, she has continued her studies with Sadie Nardini to be trained in Core Power Vinyasa, as well as mentored by our very own Tara South.

In Natalie’s classes, you will find your practice guided with flows that gently challenge you, yet allowing you to connect and find calm with the body and mind. Expect playfulness, spinal stirs and smiles before coming down for some deep relaxation. Natalie’s kindness radiates through her teaching, expect to be warmly welcomed.

 

Yoga Classes

At Amouage we offer a wide variety of yoga classes that serves all levels and needs. There are at least two classes per day at sunrise and sunset respectively, as well as regular afternoon classes and more. To work out which style suits you best, check out our different classes and see a small snippet of each to get a full flavour.

Flow

Experience the wide variety of yoga styles offered in our teaching team through these
classes. Our flow sessions are an open class for all levels.

 
Yin
Nourish your tired muscles with long hold floor poses. Each pose is held for up to 3 minutes, followed by a 2-minute relaxing rebound. This allows you to activate your chi-flow, deeply open the connective tissue and connect your breath with your body.
 
Rise

Awaken your body with the sunrise with Hatha yoga and gentle flows. Allow yourself to revive the body, mind and breath to nicely set you up for the day ahead.

 
Restorative

Completely relax and unwind in cosy supported yoga postures. You will be guided into deeply comforting poses, where you will stay for 10 minutes sinking deeper into relaxation. With gentle massages and light pressing, you’re guaranteed drift into zen-bliss.

 
Workshop

A special weekly 90-minute session where you can experience taking your practice to a deeper level. For beginners to advanced practitioners.

 
Back to Basics

Here we work on the foundations of your practice. We take our time during this session to break down and perfect postures. For all levels.

 
Community Class

As part of our All the Good Things initiative, our weekly Community Class at our Auberge Shala gathers yogis to raise money for great local causes. This class, where attendance is by donation only, brings together our community to practice together for a different cause each month.

 
Private Classes

Deepen your practice with a private one-on-one session in the Amouage Shala. Private sessions are arranged on request with the teacher of your choice. Sessions are priced as follows:

1 x Private Yoga Session – £40 / 500dhs
5 x Private Yoga Sessions – £165 / 2000dhs (get 5 for price of 4)
10 x Private Yoga Sessions – £300/ 4000dhs (get 10 for the price of 8)

Please note any cancellations must be made 12 hours before the scheduled session. Any less notice and the client will still be charged for the session.

 

Yoga Fitness Weeks

Our summer Yoga Fitness Week programme offers a week of surf, yoga and special fitness yoga style classes with guest instructors. Expect lots of laughter, sweat and fun!

Back by popular demand, we’ve got double Yoga Fitness Week powered by Broga® this summer, instructed by the incredible Founder, Matt Miller.

13 – 20 June

12 – 19 September

Not done Broga® before? You’ve missed out! It’s a fitness yoga class for both men and women that combines traditional yoga with a challenging workout. And you got Matt Miller, the Founder, to bring you a high energy session that’ll tone and strengthen your body while opening up common tight areas to leave you feeling more flexible than before. Broga is surfing’s perfect partner, as it helps strengthen the body and get ready for the waves!

Weekly Schedule

Take a look at our weekly yoga schedule. Although the teacher may change week by week, the type of class does not. Every class in our yoga schedule is open to all guests and the public to join.

Price

Daily classes

Unlimited Yoga Pass – £15 / €20 / 200 dhs per day

Pre-pay tokens – £7 / €9 / 85 dhs per token

Buy a number of class tokens before you arrive. One token gives you access to one class.

Walk-in tokens – £8 / €10 / 120 dhs per token

Buy a class token on site – make sure you to the Amouage reception 15 minutes before the class begins

 

Community Class

This class is a donation-only class, therefore no tokens need to be bought before. However, this is not a free class. All attendees do is donate a chosen amount to our Karma Jar, and all money donated goes to our charity of the month.

Private Classes

For a more one-on-one experience, you can arrange private classes onsite with the yoga teacher of your choice. You can choose from the following price options:

1 x Private Yoga Session – £40 / 500dhs
5 x Private Yoga Sessions – £165 / 2000dhs (get 5 for price of 4)
10 x Private Yoga Sessions – £300/ 4000dhs (get 10 for the price of 8)
