Our big November of anniversary celebrations continued on Thursday night with a very special guest returning to Surf Maroc – Mehdi Qamoum.
Way back when our Surf Maroc Thursday BBQs were held at Auberge, we used to kick the dancing off with a traditional Moroccan band that never failed to get everyone up and dancing. And back in those days, Mehdi was one of our regular performers to bless the stage. We always loved his amazing style and performance that’s described as the perfect blend between Jimi Hendrix and traditional Moroccan music. We couldn’t let this anniversary pass without bringing back those old days!
So on Thursday, we welcomed back Mehdi Qamoum and his band to play his modern take on traditional Gnawa music. And it was even better than old times. Still dressed up in bright costumes using traditional Moroccan instruments, the vibe immediately lifted over dinner. Everyone was instantly taken by the music, and by the end of the set, the whole of the green was filled. We had guests, surf guides and even the Amouage chefs singing, cheering and dancing along to the amazing music. The atmosphere was electric, with the last song followed by a ‘we want more!’ from the crowd.
Already there’s demands to have him back again, and we’re not saying no! Check out some of the photos here of the night, and see what other events we’ve got coming up!
