4 TRIPS LATER, THE MAGIC’S STILL REAL WITH NINA

Friday 16th May 2025

We’re lucky to welcome guests from all over the world, but nothing makes us prouder than those who come back, time and time (and time) again.

Nina is one of those special souls who first joined us on a whim and has since returned four times. Her story is a beautiful reminder of what makes this place so magnetic and why Surf Maroc guests ARE THE BEST!

From perfect waves and supportive coaching to new friendships and unforgettable road trips, Nina shares what keeps pulling her back to Morocco’s coast and why she never quite says goodbye.

Just… “see you next time”.

Hey Nina! How are you? Where’s home when you’re not in Morocco? What’s life usually like outside the waves?

I’m great, thanks… still buzzing from the trip! I live on the south coast of Cornwall, UK, right by the sea.

When I’m not surfing, I’m usually out doing something active—hiking, skating, swimming or just exploring. I’m happiest outside, soaking up nature.

So, how did surfing first become part of your life?

It was always kind of there.

I had some lessons at school and spent loads of time in the sea growing up, but it didn’t really click.

Then, during uni in Brighton, I came home to Cornwall for a visit, got some fun waves in Newquay with a good crew and it just stuck. The combination of clean waves, good energy and that feeling of being home—it hooked me completely.

What brought you to Morocco for the first time?

After uni and a few travel trips, I really wanted to surf somewhere new.

I met a surf friend online who was heading to the Surf Maroc villa, and it sounded perfect—laid-back, good surf, good people—so I joined her. It ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve made.

And now you’ve been back four times. What keeps pulling you in?

It’s the ease of it all. I just get on a plane and I know everything’s taken care of. No stress, just pure enjoyment.

The villa has such a welcoming vibe and you start connecting with people as soon as you arrive. The hosts are always lovely and make you feel right at home. Plus, the range of waves and the coaching have helped me level up my surfing every single time.

Surf Maroc

You tried a different surf spot—what was missing there that you found again at Surf Maroc?

Last year I spent some time in Essaouira and Marrakech.

They were great to explore—Essaouira had a lovely beach break—but i didn’t have the same all-round experience. At Surf Maroc, everything just flows.

There’s a rhythm to the days, the food, the surf, the people. It all comes together in a way I haven’t found anywhere else.

What’s the coaching been like over the years?

Honestly, the coaching has made a massive difference. The coaches are professional but super approachable, and they’re always offering tips and encouragement.

They really understand the local breaks and find the best spots based on your ability, so you always feel set up for success. Every time I leave, I feel like I’ve grown as a surfer.

Is there something specific that stands out to you each trip?

Definitely the villa vibe. As a woman who often travels solo, it’s such a comfort to know I’m arriving somewhere that feels like home.

The atmosphere is relaxed and sociable, and it’s so easy to meet people. I also love the food, especially the pre-dinner snacks! Sitting around, chatting with new friends, sharing stories over great food… it’s such a highlight.

Any standout memories from past trips?

So many! One that really sticks with me is visiting Imsouane’s Magic Bay before it became well-known.

It was so peaceful, just a few locals and perfect waves. Another time we headed down to Tifnit and found this completely empty lineup with clean, head-high waves and a desert backdrop.

It felt like a dream.

What kind of people do you usually meet while staying here?

There’s a real mix—people from all walks of life—but everyone shares this laid-back, open vibe.

I’ve met solo travellers, surf families, people on their first trip and others who’ve been coming for years. Everyone connects over the love of surfing and being in a beautiful place.

If someone’s on the fence about planning their first surf trip, what would you tell them about Taghazout?

I’d say go for it. Taghazout is incredibly welcoming. It has this peaceful, slow pace that’s perfect for easing into things.

The colourful buildings, the friendly locals, the chilled vibe. It all makes you feel like you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. It’s an ideal place to fall in love with surfing.

And finally, has spending time here changed anything for you, in or out of the water?

Absolutely. Surfing here has taught me to be more present and patient.

You can’t control the ocean and that lesson has carried into my everyday life. I’ve become more adaptable, more appreciative of the small moments.

The connections, the laughs, the sense of community—it’s all made me value living in the now. It’s a feeling I carry with me long after I’ve left… until next time.

thanks, from Surf Maroc Team
