Imsouane – The hottest summer surf spot

Friday 1st June 2018

The summer days are coming, and swells are rolling off the Atlantic are now tending to bring long and mellow waves – ideal for longboarders. But there is a summer spot, that works all year round, serving waves for every surfer…

Imsouane. The small sleepy town just a 90-minute cruise up the coast, known for its great fish, amazing mountain high views and two hot spots for our surf guides to spoil guests. It cannot be missed this summer…

The Bay

Type: Point and beach break

Wave: Right-hander

Best Tide: Low – Mid

Best Board: Longboard

Infamous for its long waves, the view of The Bay from above shows beautiful regular right-handers that take you from one end of the bay to the other. One of the longest rides in Africa, you can ride the wave for 600m giving longboarders time to practice their cross stepping and hang 10s! And with the beach running alongside, there are no big paddle backs to the lineup…just pop out and walk back.

And don’t think this is just for longboarders. Short borders sticking out the back near the point can catch great waves by sticking close to the pocket of the wave. Meanwhile, improvers can enjoy a long whitewash down the front to perfect their pop-up!

Best time to get in is mid-low tide when the waves are at 1.5m high for big, strong and long regular waves.

Cathedral

Type: Beach, reef and point break

Wave: Right and left-hander

Best Tide: Low – Mid

Best Board: All

Positioned on the other side of the bay, Cathedral delivers surfers beach, reef and point breaks with strong waves for all surfers!

The point break is the more intermediate spot popular with short and bodyboarders. This break delivers fast, powerful right-hand waves, especially with an east offshore wind. Low tides can bring in steep peaks and barrels, with 1.5m waves being the sweetest to shred.

The beach break, on the other hand, can be great for both improvers and beginners with both left and right waves from multiple peaks. Performing best at high tide with 1m waves, this sandy bottom break gives powerful waves that are great for all surf levels and boards. However, moving to the left side of the beach you hit a nice reef break to enjoy too!
